The Coptic Orthodox Church

The Coptic Orthodox Church is the ancient Church of Egypt, founded in Alexandria by St. Mark the Evangelist around A.D. 43. The word “Coptic” comes from the Greek word for “Egyptian.”

Today the Church is shepherded by His Holiness Pope Tawadros II, Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of St. Mark, and its churches serve the faithful in Egypt and around the world, including St. Stephen in Cypress.
